Wine
This 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon heralds from our estate vineyards in Santa
Barbara County, where a combination of cool coastal mornings and warm
afternoons is optimal for the cultivation of ripe, full-bodied Cabernet
Sauvignon. Bright aromas of clove and cassis anticipate ripe flavors
of black cherry and plum. This wine was aged in small French oak barrels
for added structure and complexity. Small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet
Franc were added for flavor.
Appellation
Viticulture in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Ynez Valley benefits
form the unique east-to-west orientation of the surrounding mountain
ranges. These transverse ranges open to the Pacific Ocean at their westward
extreme, inviting a cooling maritime influence that extends the growing
season and encourages the development of exquisitely balanced and flavorful
grapes.
Soils
Our estate soils range from sand to gravelly loam with robust subsoils.
Such well-draining soils are optimal for winegrowing, forcing vines
with roots deep into ground and ultimately generating concentrated varitiel
flavors
